Terms of Service

Effective September 11, 2026 · Applies to getstubby.ca, the Stubby web app and the public rate cards

1. Agreement

These Terms govern your use of Stubby, the website at getstubby.ca and everything served from it (together, "the Service"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. The Service is operated by Gardsy Inc., a corporation based in Ontario, Canada ("we", "us").

2. What Stubby is

Stubby is a calculator. It estimates gross pay, deductions, net pay, overtime, employer-paid benefits, union-versus-non-union comparisons and Employment Insurance figures for tradespeople, using published collective agreements, rate sheets and Canada Revenue Agency payroll formulas. It runs in your browser and stores your inputs on your device.

3. Estimates, not advice

Every number Stubby shows is an estimate. It is not payroll, tax, legal, accounting or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for your actual pay stub, your collective agreement, your union, your employer or the CRA.

Real cheques differ from estimates for many legitimate reasons: year-to-date contribution ceilings, mid-year rate changes, employer-specific practices, TD1 claim amounts, benefit elections, rounding, local rules we have not yet captured, or simple data-entry mistakes. Agreement data is transcribed from public documents and may contain errors or be out of date; each agreement's verification status is shown inside the app and explained in our AI & data disclosure. If Stubby and your stub disagree, your stub, your agreement and your local are the authority. Before acting on anything Stubby shows you (raising a grievance, filing taxes, changing your withholding, making a financial decision), confirm it with a qualified person.

4. Your responsibilities

5. Free and Pro

The calculator, comparison, EI and rate-card features are free and require no account. "Stubby Pro" features (such as saved cheque history and year-to-date tracking) may be offered as a paid subscription. Where they are, the following applies:

6. Your data

Your inputs stay on your device and belong to you. We do not receive them. See the Privacy Policy. Because we do not hold your data, we cannot recover it for you: if you clear your browser storage or lose your device without exporting a backup, it is gone.

7. Intellectual property

The Stubby name, logo, app, site design and code are owned by Gardsy Inc. Collective agreements and CRA formulas are public documents belonging to their respective owners; Stubby's structured transcriptions of them, and the public rate cards, are provided for personal, non-commercial use. You may link to and share rate cards freely with attribution to Stubby.

8. Availability and changes

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. The app is designed to keep working offline on your device once loaded, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the site.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability or non-infringement. We do not warrant that any calculation is correct or that the Service will be error-free.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Gardsy Inc. and its officers, employees and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of income, wages, benefits, tax refunds, data or goodwill, arising from your use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or $50 CAD if you paid nothing. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in that case these limits apply to the greatest extent permitted.

11. Indemnity

You agree to hold Gardsy Inc. harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the Service or your breach of these Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there. Any dispute will be brought in the courts of Ontario, without prejudice to your rights under any consumer-protection law that applies where you live.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The effective date at the top will change and material changes will be noted in the app. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept it.
