Privacy Policy

Who we are

Stubby is operated by Gardsy Inc., a corporation based in Ontario, Canada ("we", "us"). We are subject to Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Questions about this policy go to hello@getstubby.ca.

What Stubby stores on your device

When you use the calculator, Stubby saves your inputs in your browser's own storage (localStorage and IndexedDB) so they are there the next time you open it. This may include:

• Your union local, sector, classification, province, pay frequency and pay date.
• Hours worked, overtime and premium blocks, allowances, travel distance and job-site address if you enter one.
• Employer and job names you choose to type in.
• Rates, vacation-pay and dues values you enter manually or that Stubby derives from a pay stub you scan.
• Saved cheques and year-to-date totals (Pro features).
• A random device identifier generated on first run, used only to tell your own records apart if you ever export and import them. It is not sent anywhere.
• Whether Pro features are switched on.

This information never leaves your browser unless you export it yourself. You can delete all of it at any time by clearing site data for getstubby.ca in your browser settings, or by uninstalling the app if you added it to your home screen.

The pay-stub scanner

If you scan a pay stub, the image or PDF is read entirely on your device using an on-device text-recognition engine. The stub is never uploaded. The first time you use the scanner, your browser downloads the recognition engine's code and English language file from the jsDelivr content delivery network. Like any download, that request shows jsDelivr your IP address and browser type; it does not include your stub or any of your data. jsDelivr's privacy policy is at jsdelivr.com.

What our server sees

getstubby.ca is a static website hosted on a server in Toronto, Canada (DigitalOcean). Serving any web page involves receiving your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. Our web server writes these to standard access logs, which we use only to keep the site running and to detect abuse. Logs are rotated and automatically deleted after 14 days. We do not use them to identify or profile you.

When you pick an agreement that isn't bundled with the app, Stubby fetches that agreement's public rate configuration from getstubby.ca. This is a request for a public file, not a transmission of your data.

What we do not do

• No accounts, passwords or sign-in.
• No analytics, tracking pixels, fingerprinting or advertising.
• No cookies. Stubby uses browser storage only to keep your own inputs on your own device.
• No selling, renting or sharing of personal information, ever.
• No transfer of your pay data to any server, including ours.

If you email us

The "Send feedback" and "Send an idea" buttons open your own email program with a pre-filled message. That message includes the app version and your selected local and sector so we can reproduce what you saw; it never includes pay figures. Anything you choose to add is up to you. We keep feedback emails only as long as needed to respond and improve the app.

Pro subscriptions (when available)

Paid Stubby Pro subscriptions, once launched, will be processed by Stripe. Stripe collects your payment details directly and we never see your full card number. From Stripe we receive only what is needed to confirm your subscription: an email address, a customer reference and subscription status. Your pay data is not connected to your subscription and does not go to Stripe or to us. Stripe's privacy policy is at stripe.com/privacy. This section takes effect only when paid plans are switched on; the app will say clearly when that happens.

Exporting and importing your data

You can export everything Stubby holds as a JSON file and import it on another device. That file is created on your device and goes wherever you send it; treat it as you would a pay stub.

Children

Stubby is built for working tradespeople and apprentices. It is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Your rights

Because your data lives on your device, you already hold it: you can read it, correct it, export it or erase it without asking us. If you have emailed us and want that correspondence corrected or deleted, write to hello@getstubby.ca and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS. Because we hold no user accounts or pay data, there is no central database of your information for anyone to breach. Protecting the data on your own device (screen lock, keeping your browser updated) is in your hands.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Stubby handles information, we will update this page and the effective date, and describe the change in the app's release notes. Material changes, such as introducing accounts or sync, will be announced inside the app before they take effect.
